UEFA Champions League teams that are unbeaten in all competitions this season
The 2019-20 UEFA Champions League group stage features 32 teams from 16 different countries. 4 teams from Spain, Germany, Italy, England; 3 from France; 2 each from Belgium and Russia; and 1 each from the Czech Republic, Portugal, Netherlands, Ukraine, Austria, Turkey, Greece, Serbia, and Croatia have graced the group stage of the competition this season.
The second matchday of the league has come to an end, and 12 teams either won or drew their respective games across both matchdays. Let us find out which of these teams are also unbeaten on the domestic front.
NB: The list does not feature Internazionale and Liverpool, who have won all their 6 and 7 league games respectively this season, but have tasted defeat in the Champions League.
#1 Club Brugge (Belgium)
Club Brugge have won six and drawn two of their eight games in the Belgian League this season and are also unbeaten in their domestic cup.
The Belgian league leaders beat Dynamo Kiev of Ukraine in the third qualifying round and LASK of Austria in the playoffs to get to the group stage of the Champions League.
Brugge drew goalless at home to Galatasaray in their first European game of the season. On matchday-2, the Belgian side took a 2-0 lead in the Spanish capital and were on the cusp of a famous win, only to be held to a 2-2 draw by Real Madrid.
Midfielder Hans Vanaken is the club's top-scorer for the season, netting 7 goals in 15 games in all competitions.
#2 Bayern Munich (Germany)
Record 33-time Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are top of the pile in Germany after six matchdays, having won 4 and drawn 2 games.
In the Champions League, Bayern beat Serbian side Crvena Zvezda 3-0 at home in their first European game of the season. Bayern then produced the biggest win of matchday-2, when they came from a goal down to thump last season's runners-up Tottenham Hotspur 7-2 in London, as Serge Gnabry joined a select group of players to score 4 goals in a Champions League game.
Bayern's Polish marksman Robert Lewandowski has scored in each of Bayern's six league games and in both their Champions League games of the season for a total of 14 goals in 10 games in all competitions.
#3 Juventus (Italy)
Record 35-time Italian champions are one of two unbeaten teams in the Serie A, having won five of their opening six games of the season to trail league leaders Internazionale by two points.
Juventus began their 20th season in the Champions League at the Wanda Metropolitano in the Spanish capital, where they squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Atlético Madrid.
On matchday-2, the Bianconeri downed German side Bayer 04 Leverkusen 3-0 in Turin, as Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 27th goal against German clubs and against a record-33rd different club in the Champions League.
Ronaldo is the club's highest scorer this season, scoring 4 goals (3 in Serie A, 1 in the Champions League) in 7 games in all competitions.
#4 Ajax Amsterdam (Netherlands)
2018-19 Eredivisie winners Ajax Amsterdam are one of two unbeaten teams in the Netherlands (also PSV Eindhoven), with each side having won 6 and drawn 2 of their first 8 games of the season.
Ajax beat PAOK of Greece in the third qualifying round and APOEL of Cyprus in the playoffs to qualify for their 15th season in the Champions League.
They beat French side Lille 3-0 at home in their first European game of the season (excluding qualifiers) and overwhelmed Valencia 3-0 in Spain on matchday-2 to continue their fine form in the Champions League following a run to the semifinals last season.
Dusan Tadic is the club's top scorer in all competitions this season, netting 8 goals in 15 games.
