Louis van Gaal comments on Manchester United target Kevin Strootman
Louis van Gaal has refused to comment on speculation linking him with a move for AS Roma midfielder, Kevin Strootman.
Van Gaal was officially announced as manager of Manchester United on Monday and a number of names have come up as potential transfer targets for the Dutchman, including Kevin Strootman.
Strootman signed for Roma last summer, however, after a brilliant start to life in Italy he suffered cruciate ligament damage which ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.
According to Goal, van Gaal refused to be drawn on any speculation when questioned about the Roma midfielder.
Van Gaal said: “Success at United doesn’t depend on money, but about which players we bring in. I gave my wishlist to the club. Is Kevin Strootman on it? A question for you, a fact for me.
“It’s not hard at all to make the switch from United to Oranje. For a manager it’s totally different than for a player.
“A player needs to focus on one thing to be successful, while a coach is thinking about the whole process. Otherwise I couldn’t do interviews like this any more and that’s just ridiculous.”
