Luis Enrique says Barcelona are hungry for more success in 2016

Luis Enrique is well on his way to becoming the most successful manager at Barcelona after Pep Guardiola

Barcelona has won five trophies in 2015 but satisfaction is the last thing on manager Luis Enrique’s mind. He and his team are looking forward to doing better in the coming year. The Barcelona head coach spoke in a news conference,

"It has been a good year I would give it a nine because we can always improve.”

Barcelona galloped back to the top of the La Liga table as they thrashed Real Betis to a 4-0 defeat on Wednesday. Messi scored from a Neymar pass, Suarez netted two and another was an own goal from the Real defender Heiko Westermann, which was an attempt to clear the ball after Neymar missed a penalty chance when the ball hit the bar.

Barcelona set a record of 180 goals scored, which is the maximum by a Spanish club in a calendar year eclipsing Real Madrid’s haul in  2014.

The Blaugrana were treble winners last season and they continued their victorious spell as they also lifted the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup earlier this month. Athletic Bilbao were the only side to deny them a trophy last season as they beat the Catalans in the domestic Super Cup over two legs.

Want to do better in 2016: Enrique

It was the attacking magic of the trio up front, now commonly known as MSN (Messi, Suarez, Neymar) who excelled for Barcelona. Among themselves the three scored 137 goals overall in 2015. Also, last night Messi scored in his 500th appearance for Barcelona. Despite all the achievements in the past, Luis Enrique is concentrating on the future alone.

Luis Enrique who used be a midfielder of some repute for Barcelona back in the 90’s said he still believes in the philosophy that he used to believe in as a player.

"As a player my philosophy was always to give my all and I never had any regrets when the season ended, and it is the same as a coach.”

"There is not a particularly good or bad moment I will try to remember. I am not going to get carried away and 2015 is already part of the past. It doesn't interest me at all and now I want to do better in 2016 which is the way a professional has to live."

"We can enjoy being a unique team but now the objective is to forget the past and win the next game in 2016. We need to be in position to win trophies at the end of the season.”

Complacent is the last word one can use to describe the attitude of the Barcelona boss Luis Enrique.
