Rumours: Manchester United winger to reunite with former coach
Former Manchester United number two Rene Meulensteen could be set for a reunion with United winger Nani, with Meulensteen’s Fulham interested in taking the winger on loan. A move to a club fighting relegation would cap a miserable season for Nani, who could be set to leave the club just sixth months after signing a five year contract. The Metro report that Fulham want Nani to replace the outgoing Bryan Ruiz at Craven Cottage and that Moyes is keen to move the former Sporting Lisbon man on.
Nani’s former club Sporting are keen on taking the Portuguese winger back to his homeland on loan, but Fulham are hoping to hijack the deal with an offer to keep him in the Premier League. Surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, Nani could move on loan until the end of the season to help bolster Fulham’s squad in their fight to avoid relegation to the Championship.
The winger has made just eight appearances in the Premier League under Moyes – three of which have come from the bench – and has neither scored nor provided an assist this season. The enigmatic winger joined United in 2007, but has been inconsistent throughout his spell in the Premier League.
A loan move appears likely for the winger, who has struggled for fitness this season, in order to maximise his chances of making Portugal’s World Cup squad.
Despite only playing 426 minutes of Premier League football this season, Nani is fourth for successful take ons amongst United players this season. He has completed 22 – one every 19 minutes.
