Rumour: Luis Suarez should leave Liverpool for La Liga, claims father-in-law

Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez's father-in-law Gustalvo Balbi has urged the striker to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old is set to be subjected to a transfer battle between La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, the latest reports claims the Uruguayan international favours a move to the Catalan club.

Balbi believes should Suarez leave Brendan Rodgers' side, he should join either of the Spanish clubs in the upcoming transfer window.

"It is the right moment for him to make a switch. He has already proved everything at the Premier League and he has nothing more to prove there", Balbi told Spanish TV La Sexta.

"If he leaves England the best option would be La Liga. We would like to have him in Spain as we would like to have our grand children with us."

The former Ajax man was the Premier League's top scorer last season and bagged the PFA Player of the Year Award. He was a target for Arsene Wenger, who was keen on signing him last summer.

Recently, a bizarre report suggested that Manchester United are keen on landing Suarez this summer, according to the Daily Star. However, the Reds superstar's father-in-law has quashed any suggestions that Liverpool striker will join their Premier League rivals.

"It doesn't matter whether it's one team or the other (Madrid or Barcelona)

"He (Suarez) would not go to another Premier League team due to his respect for Liverpool and the supporters'  respect for him," Suarez's father-in-law concluded.

Rodgers admitted that would look to bring in players to the club in the summer transfer window, who are hungry to achieve more success. The former Swansea manager has set his sights on building on the Anfield club's brilliant run in the league last season.

However, if Suarez leaves Liverpool in the summer, it would be a massive blow for the Merseyside in club in finding a replacement for the South American hotshot.
