Lukaku should move to Manchester United or Bayern Munich, feels Everton striker's father
Everton striker Romelu Lukaku’s father has risked angering the Merseyside club by insisting his son should move to Manchester United or Bayern Munich. The Belgian striker’s dad claimed that there is genuine interest from a host of clubs around Europe and that Lukaku should move to further his career.
Speaking to Belgian news outlet Het Laatste Nieuws, Roger Lukaku, who himself was a professional footballer in Belgium, claimed that his son Romelu Lukaku should make the move to a European giant sooner rather than later, saying “He's ready. I see that there is interest from Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Chelsea and Manchester United.”
Despite labelling Manchester United as a team without ‘focus’, Lukaku Sr. would be glad to see his son move there, saying “I think he must choose Manchester United or Bayern Munich. Manchester United is a team under construction with no real focus. Bayern Munich is a machine where he can rotate well. The only condition is if Robert Lewandowski leaves.”
Everton purchased Lukaku from Chelsea for a club record 28 million fee and has repaid the fee by regularly plundering goals since his transfer, although he has been in exceptional form this season, being involved in 31 goals from 37 games for Everton this season, scoring 25 and assisting 6 goals in all competitions.
Lukaku’s father has caused trouble for his son before
Roger Lukaku’s comments are sure to place Romelu in an awkward position when he returns to Everton after the international break with Belgium. It isn’t the first time that Lukaku Sr. has been the source of trouble for his son.
Roger Lukaku was sentenced to 15 months in jail by a Belgium court in 2013, after he was accused of assaulting a female and keeping her in the boot of his car. His lawyer said “My client was sentenced because he didn’t appear in court. He doesn’t belong in jail. His wife is suffering, but his sons, Romelu and Jordan, are doing everything to get their dad free as soon as possible.”
“Mr. Lukaku has lodged an objection to the judgment and the case will be tried again in the coming days. To this day, we still do not know the date of the trial.”
Despite the timing of his comments, Lukaku’s father has a valid point. There is a dearth of top-class strikers in world football and Romelu Lukaku fits the bill of a young, proven striker available at a reasonable price, thus attracting interest from multiple clubs.
