Lukas Podolski feels he left Bayern Munich too soon

Lukas Podolski

Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski has admitted that he was wrong in leaving Bayern Munich in 2009. Podolski moved to Bayern in 2006 from his hometown club FC Koln and spent 3 inconsistent years in Bavaria and moved back to FC Koln in 2009. He then signed for Arsenal in 2012.

The German international told Bild magazine, “I believe that if Jupp Heynckes had arrived one or  two weeks earlier in 2009, I would probably still be at Bayern now.

“He was desperate to keep me. From a purely sporting perspective, returning  to Cologne was certainly not helpful.”

The 28 year old had a good start to his Arsenal career, scoring 18 goals in his first season. The 2nd season though has not been so rosy for the player capped 111 times by Germany as he suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out for a long period of time. That started rumours that he might be offloaded.

Podolski however went on to refute such claims, “That was a  myth.

“There was absolutely no truth in it. The coach told me as such, and I knew  there was no truth in it.”

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger also showed faith in his attributes as he did not sign a striker in January by stating that they have enough world class strikers at the club.
