Luke Shaw should reject Chelsea in favor of Manchester United
Luke Shaw could be on his way to Chelsea if recent rumors are to be believed. Jose Mourinho wants to take the talented youngster to Stamford Bridge as a long term replacement for Ashley Cole who is out of contract at the end of the season and is reportedly considering submitting a £30 million bid for Shaw.
Cole has fallen out of favor with Mourinho who prefers Cesar Azpilicueta in the left back role this season. The England international’s place in the national side is also under threat due to the brilliance of Leighton Baines and will most likely retire and join the MLS next season.
Shaw on the other hand is one of the Premier League’s breakout stars and will soon be playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world. The teenager can attack as well as defend from the left flank which will make him a big asset to any club as good left backs are hard to find these days.
Manchester United are also on the look out for a new left-back with Patrice Evra set to leave at the end of the season. Fabio and Alexander Buttner have been unimpressive in the position for the Red Devils so far this season and are too unreliable to be included in the first team.
Manchester United manager David Moyes attempted to bring Shaw to Old Trafford in the summer but the move didn’t materialize due to Southampton’s reluctance to sell their star player so soon. Moyes is expected to reignite his interest in Shaw this summer and hopefully the player will make the right decision and join United.
David Moyes has been known to develop young talents like Wayne Rooney, Mikel Arteta and Ross Barkley, so Shaw is sure to blossom under the guidance of the Scot.
Chelsea on the other hand have a disastrous reputation with young players. Before Shaw joined Southampton’s ranks he was given a trial at Chelsea but the London club did not think that he was good enough to play for them.
Other talented players such as Daniel Sturridge, who is one half of one of the most deadliest strike partnerships in world football, slipped through Chelsea’s fingers. They paid £21 million for Nemanja Matic a player who was once on their books which shows their failure to spot talent.
Another example of Chelsea’s wastefulness can be made in the form of Ryan Bertrand. The 24-year-old is an extremely talented left-back the same position that Chelsea want filled but has made just 28 appearances for the Blues during his entire career.
Why Mourinho has not given Bertrand a chance to prove himself as Cole’s replacement is beyond anyone. It seems like Chelsea cannot see what is right in front of their eyes.
Shaw will soon become too good to play for Southampton and must decide where his future lies. Manchester United have quite a young defense so Shaw can feel right at home.
The Old Trafford club is set for a major change under Moyes and Shaw could be an important part of the team. What happens next is up to Luke.
