Major League Soccer franchise Columbus Crew sold for an undisclosed amount
The Hunt Sports Group has sold club Columbus Crew for an undisclosed amount on Tuesday. Rumours started doing the rounds about a possible sale of the franchise October last year, but Clark Hunt, Chairman and CEO of the Kansas City Chiefs, who leads the Hunt Sports Group, told the media that the group was looking for minority investors and not a total sale of the team.
However, the rumours were confirmed when Hunt announced the sale. The club’s operating rights have been acquired by Precourt Sports Venture, a San Fransiso based private equity manager, which focuses on the sports and entertainment sector.
Columbus Crew were originally owned by Clark’s father and original founding investor in Major League Soccer, Lamar Hunt. The senior Hunt also financed the construction of the Columbus Crew stadium, which was the first soccer specific stadium in the United States.
