Manchester United reportedly keen on Arturo Vidal and Angel Di Maria

Angel di Maria of Argentina warms up during a training session

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has revealed that Manchester United are interested in signing Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria and Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal this summer.

The pair have both been linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the summer courtesy of a variety of sources, but there is still a great deal of scepticism surrounding the Red Devils’ reported interest.

However, Balague is adamant that the club are actively seeking a transfer for both players as new manager Louis van Gaal plans to restructure his under-performing squad and challenge for silverware next season.

The journalist’s revelation also suggests that Los Blancos’ midfielder, who scored a last-gasp winner in Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Switzerland at the World Cup to earn a quarter final clash against Belgium, is keen to leave the Bernabeu.

Di Maria enjoyed a stellar season under Carlo Ancelotti, but the Italian manager appears to have a battle on his hands in order to convince the 26-year-old to rebuff advances from across the continent for his signature.

Meanwhile, Vidal has emerged as an integral member of the Serie A champions’ side and could also be set for a move to the Theatre of Dreams after admitting he will consider his future earlier in the summer.

But the Chile international has also earned admiring glances from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool, so United face stiff competition to complete the proposed deal.

Whether the prestigious duo arrive or not, the news confirming United’s interest in two such high profile players will please the United faithful as they hope to witness a reverse to the decline that set in at the club under David Moyes.
