Man Utd 1-1 Southampton: Key stats and player ratings
.
Man United drop points again at home, with Southampton being the latest team to leave Old Trafford with something. Man United took an early lead thanks to Robin van Persie, but as the game grew, Southampton gradually built on their momentum and grabbed a well deserved equaliser, thanks to Adam Lallana. Here are the player ratings, based on Squawka Performance Score.
Manchester United:
Goalkeeper: David De Gea – (1)
Relatively untroubled throughout the game, but let the equalising goal through his legs, which was a sloppy goal to concede.
Right-Back: Rafael (5)
The Brazilian was untroubled by the Saints attack and provided the overlap when needed. He also won all three of his tackles.
Left-Back: Patrice Evra (-5)
Had little to do throughout the game and like Rafeal, he won all three of his tackles.
Centre-Back: Phil Jones (22)
Helped Evans to deal with Osvaldo’s forays into the penalty area. He also made three interceptions.
Centre-Back:Jonny Evans (22)
Coped ably with the presence of Osvaldo and then Lambert in the box as Southampton looked to utilise their aerial presence.
Centre-Midfield: Michael Carrick (22)
Extremely composed in possession as usual and controlled the midfield alongside Fellaini.
Centre-Midfield: Marouane Fellaini (16)
Provided a combative presence in a midfield battle against Lallana and Wanyama. He made five interceptions, more than any player for either side.
Right-Wing: Nani (17)
Largely a passenger for United, he was subbed late on for Giggs. However, he did make three key passes.
Right – Wing: Adnan Januzaj (-3)
His sensational pass put Rooney through on goal which helped United to take the lead. Besides that he did little else.
Attacking -Midfield: Wayne Rooney (-22)
Should have scored from Januzaj’s pass, but Van Persie was on hand to spare his blushes. Rooney attempted six crosses, with only one being accurate. Poor game by his standards.
Striker: Robin van Persie (45)
A superb finish to give United an early lead but the Dutchman toiled away up front as United failed to capitalise on their lead. Van Persie did not create a chance today, meaning he has only created one chance all season in the Premier League.
Subs:
Ryan Giggs (0)
On for Nani, he was asked to shore up the midfield in face of a late Southampton onslaught and did so ably.
Danny Welbeck (-10)
Replaced Fellaini, and perhaps should have grabbed the winner, but he didn’t have the pace to evade Schneiderlin. Welbeck only completed one pass during his time on the pitch too. Shocking.
Chris Smalling (6)
Had little chance to impress as he came on for Rooney in the final few minutes.
