Manchester City interested in Brazil striker Fred
Brazil’s Confederations cup hero Fred has caught the eye of Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, as the manager looks for a new striker after the departure of Carlos Tevez.
The Blues from Manchester are short of striking options as Dzeko and Aguero remain the club’s only two recognised strikers, after the sale of star players Balotelli and Tevez within a space of six months.
The Fluminese striker has been in red-hot form after scoring 5 goals in 5 games for Brazil in the recently concluded Confederations cup.
The former Lyon striker returned to Brazil in 2009 after initially refusing to do so. He finished last season as the top scorer in the Brasileirao Serie A after scoring 20 goals in 28 games, playing a key role in Fluminense’s title winning campaign, only their 4th title in history.
Fluminense’s director of football, Rodrigo Caetano, insists that the striker is happy to stay at the Maracana.
“Fred is under contract with Fluminense, he is very happy at the club and we are very satisfied with him,” Caetano said.
The 29-year old centre forward agreed with his director and declared that it will take a ‘great offer’ to take him away from Brazil.
“I am doing great at Fluminense and I will only leave the club if there is a really great offer,” he declared.
