Reports: Manchester City eye surprise move for PSG star
What’s the rumour?
Manchester City are eyeing a move for PSG's on-loan star, Kylian Mbappe according to Mirror. The French side are reportedly behind on FFP rules and will not be able to afford to pay his £168M fee this summer.
Pep Guardiola wants to take advantage of this situation and bring him to Etihad. The manager wants to strengthen the squad despite running away with the title this season.
In case you didn’t know...
Paris Saint-Germain signed Mbappe on a season-long loan deal with an obligation to buy him for £168m at the end of the season. But with the club unable to get enough money generated through sponsors and the Champions League, they will now be in danger of getting banned.
The heart of the matter
PSG will be banned from the Champions League if they are found guilty of breaching FFP rules. In September 2017, UEFA opened an investigation to check if the Ligue 1 side were artificially inflating sponsorship deals to be on terms with the FFP regulations.
The French club have dismissed all such reports and claims that they are all legit. They believe that everything will be cleared once they meet the UEFA officials this week.
Mirror claim that Guardiola wanted to sign Mbappe last summer as well but was beaten to him by PSG. The manager even held a meeting personally with the player to convince him according to the report.
Rumour probability: 4/10
It's a very difficult deal for Manchester City to complete. PSG will do all they can to retain the player and Mbappe too would love to remain there.
