Manchester City officially confirm Ilkay Gundogan transfer from Borussia Dortmund
English Premier League’s first major transfer was completed today when Manchester City confirmed that Borussia Dortmund superstar Ilkay Gundogan would become the first signing under new manager Pep Guardiola. The signing was confirmed by Manchester City FC on their official account.
Gundogan is a player who Pep Guardiola has been after for a long time and his signing will provide a major boost to the Manchester City midfield. Gundogan was targeted by other major European clubs like Manchester United, Barcelona and Arsenal but in the end Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were successful in securing the talented German’s services.
The player himself took to Twitter to announce that he was a Manchester City player with a simple yet cheeky tweet.
Gundogan has been a crucial player for Borussia Dortmund over the last few seasons and his vision, passing and positioning skills have been crucial to Borussia Dortmund’s successes in the recent past. Pep Guardiola seemed to have a huge challenge to revitalise Manchester City after a slightly disappointing season, but with marquee signings like Gundogan, Manchester City can soon become a dominant force not only in EPL but also in Europe.
"I’m thrilled to have signed for Manchester City,” he told City's official website. "When I learned of City’s interest my heart was set on coming here and things have moved very quickly.
"I have loved my time with Borussia Dortmund and I would like to thank the club and the supporters for the five very happy years I spent there.
"They gave me a platform to play on and I became a better player because of the belief, patience and trust they showed in me.
"Now I have a new challenge and that is to achieve great things with City. The opportunity to work with a coach like Pep Guardiola is something I am really looking forward to and I am flattered to be the first signing the Club has made this summer.
"I can promise the City fans I will give everything to help us win titles both in England and the Champions League. These are exciting times.
"I have my best years ahead of me and I think we can achieve great things together. I can’t wait to begin this new chapter in my career.”
Toni Kroos and Paul Pogba are also reported to be on Manchester City’s radar with Trixi Bergistan pulling out all stops to make Manchester City one of the best club sides in the world under Guardiola.
