Manchester City transfer rumour: Guardiola favourite to sign Tottenham star Eric Dier
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and England international, Eric Dier reportedly being eyed by Manchester City according to Ladbrokes. The 22-year-old Englishman was signed up by the London club for a bargain price from Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon back in 2014.
A Ladbrokes spokesperson has, in fact, has gone on to state, "It's not quite clicking for Dier and Pochettino at Tottenham this season, and it's Manchester City who look best placed to take advantage."
But it is hard to believe that Spurs manager, Mauricio Pochettino would be willing to let go of one of England’s brightest prospects just to cash in on huge money. The 22-year old has shown that he can be a key player for both club and country in the future.
Dier didn’t waste much time to show his talent and versatility playing in a number of different positions for the Spurs over the last couple of years. The youngster started off as a centre-back but was given a change in the role, under his current manager, Mauricio Pochettino. Die alongside Dele Alli were exceptional in the midfield for the club last season.
Although, Victor Wanyama’s arrival at the White Hart Lane has forced Dier back into the defence where he is currently covering for the injured Toby Alderweireld. With over 100 appearances for the Spurs under his belt at just 22 years of age, the England international midfielder looks secure. Eric Dier’s contract with Tottenham runs out in the summer of 2021.
The Times have also recently reported that club’s like Bayern Munich and Chelsea are keen on signing the young English midfielder. If there is even a tiny possibility of Eric Dier leaving White Hart Lane, there would be several clubs lining up to sign the talented youngster.
The 22-year-old was not involved in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United last week but did start in Thursday’s game alongside Victor Wanyama in the midfield against Hull City in the Premier League.
Tottenham Hotspur were sensational last season under Mauricio Pochettino as they mounted a late title challenge against Leicester City and Arsenal FC but eventually finished 3rd in the League. Pochettino’s men were consistently winning games thanks to a solid defense and the attacking threat of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and of course Harry Kane.
Spurs haven’t had a sensational start to the League this season but are slowly piling the pressure on the top four as they are currently 5th in the Premier League table just three points off fourth-placed Manchester City.
