Manchester United 1-2 Sevilla: Player ratings

Manchester United v Sevilla FC - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: Second Leg
Manchester United are out of Europe!

Manchester United crashed out of the UEFA Champions League with a 2-1 loss to Sevilla in the second leg at Old Trafford. A 0-0 scoreline in the first leg had made this tie a one to watch out for and it surely lived up to it's billing as United became the second big casualty of the competition after PSG.

Sevilla's super-sub Wissam Ben Yedder scored a brace in the final quarter of the game and guided his side to the final eight. Romelu Lukaku had the consolation goal to his name in the last few minutes of the game.

So, without further ado, let's take a deeper look at how each player fared in Sevilla's gigantic win over Manchester United:

Manchester United v Sevilla FC - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: Second Leg
Wissam Ben Yedder scored a stunning brace

Sevilla

Sergio Rico: 6/10

Rico made a couple of decent saves on the night and displayed strong hands. His distribution was satisfactory but he would feel hard done by conceding a late goal.

Gabriel Mercado: 6/10

He handled the threat of Alexis Sanchez brilliantly and also kept Lingard in check. Mercado never looked the second best against Sanchez or Lingard and held his nerve on the night.

Simon Kjaer: 7/10

Returning from a back injury, Kjaer showed great composure and was the best defender on the field. He made 6 clearances and 2 timely interceptions. The Dane rallied his troops and was the leader of the backline.

Clement Lenglet: 6/10

The youngster had the job of handling Romelu Lukaku on the night and for the majority of the game, he did his job with aplomb. He was up for the physical challenge against the Belgian and showed tremendous grit. Lenglet made 7 clearances and was neat with his passing.

Sergio Escudero: 6/10

The left-back did his primary job to the tee and then backed it up with some useful work in the other half of the field. Escudero won 9 duels on the night, won 3 tackles and also delivered 2 crosses into the box.

Steven N'Zonzi: 8/10

On his return to England, N'Zonzi bossed the midfield and made all the right noises for his side. He completed 90% of his passes and also helped out in defense with 3 clearances and by winning 7 aerial duels.

Ever Banega: 7/10

Sevilla's main man dominated the midfield with his brilliant passing and kept the play ticking for his side. A yellow card offense early in the game was the only blemish on his performance.

Pablo Sarabia: 6/10

Sarabia had a big role to play in the first goal and often found huge space on the right to get forward. He looked lively on the night and had 3 key passes to his name.

Franco Vazquez: 6/10

He linked up well with Luis Muriel up front but also showed great energy to track back and help out his team without the ball. In doing so, Franco's best work on the night came without the ball.

Joaquin Correa: 7/10

Correa was a constant threat for Sevilla on the night and made an assist for the second goal. His sharpness in the final third hurt United as he also attempted 6 shots on goal.

Luis Muriel: 6/10

Muriel engaged the center-backs in Sevilla's counter attacks and had them worried throughout his time on the field. Though the striker had seldom luck to get a shot, he often brought his teammates into play with some brilliant link-up play.

Substitutions

Wissam Ben Yedder: 9/10

If there was an award for an impact substitute, Ben Yedder would definitely win it with his last night's display. The striker was on the field for around 20 minutes and scored two goals which have dragged Sevilla into the final eight. In his short cameo, Ben Yedder had 3 shots on target and proved to be a nightmare for United.

Guido Pizzaro: 6/10

Pizzaro was brought to see out the game and he managed that without any fuss in the dying stages.

Johannes Geis: N/A

Geis was on the field for the stoppage time and did not do anything worth mentioning.
