Manchester United: 3 reasons why Mauricio Pochettino is the right man for the job
Manchester United's indifferent run of performances and Mauricio Pochettino's sacking might just be more than some coincidence in the world of football. The Argentine has always been considered by United fans as the best man for the job for many seasons, but he has always proven his loyalty to Spurs by staying and giving them a reason to celebrate due to his attractive brand of football.
Pochettino was sacked by Tottenham on 19 November and was immediately replaced by Jose Mourinho. It was reported that everything happened so suddenly in North London that the outgoing manager did not even get to meet the players for one final time.
Meanwhile, United fans have been getting excited about the fact that the change in personnel in London might come as a blessing in disguise for the red half of Manchester. It is finally the time when Pochettino to United doesn't seem just a possibility anymore.
With the ex-Southampton boss specifically ruling out a move to Barcelona due to his loyalty with Espanyol and revealing that he is close to some 'exciting projects in Europe', everything probably redirects to one destination - Old Trafford.
Today we take a look at the top three reasons why Pochettino is the right man for the United job in case the Board takes the stern decision to relieve Solskjaer at the end of this season.
#3 A progressive and expansive style of play suited to United
Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, the Red Devils have always had managers who had very different styles of football and build-up play.
While David Moyes brought his Everton mentality to play on the counter, Louis van Gaal relied on heavy spending on superstars to compete for every trophy possible. Then came Mourinho who was a different philosophy altogether, basing his style of play on defensive structures. Currently, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plays a fairly United way of football, if altered to suit the team's limitations, but his lack of experience in the dugout shows in the results.
All the weakness and difficulties in previous and current systems point to only one man - Mauricio Pochettino.
If we look at how Tottenham has always played under the Argentine, it has always been similar to what Manchester United's philosophy has always been for the past three decades under Ferguson - expansive and attacking.
Pochettino's teams do not sit back and wait for their turn to counter, instead they press high up the pitch and attack on every opportunity possible for a chance on goal. Probably this is what United has been missing for sometime now under Ole, where the Norwegian implements a similar style but is unable to get results.
