Manchester United: 5 Players the Red Devils must sign this summer

A major overhaul of the squad is the need of the hour at Old Trafford. After years of switching managers, bringing big-name players, it's time that Ed Woodward & co invest in the right kind of player.

It's no secret that the defence is in desperate need to get a new look. Ashley Young is past his prime and Antonio Valencia has left. Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have been at the club for a long time but haven't developed their game as Sir Alex Ferguson would have expected.

Along with that, right wing has been a huge problem. A club like Manchester United is surviving without a right winger for many seasons now. Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard have been deployed at that position lately but it's quite clear how dull they are on the flank.

Fresh blood is required in Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be hoping that the board backs him. It's blatantly clear that Manchester United need at least 5 new faces when they start the new season if they aspire to challenge for any trophy.

#5 Kalidou Koulibaly

Koulibaly is among the top five centre-backs in the World currently. The 27-year old is the most essential part of Napoli's squad and they will be forced to fill a huge void if he opts to depart. He has played 48 games this season, making 1.8 tackles per game and 1.2 interceptions per game.

A move to Old Trafford has been linked for a while now but it's understood that the English club might have to break their transfer fee to sign the Senegalese centre-back.

Even though his market value is around £80 million, Napoli won't be willing to accept anything below £120 million considering the role the defender has played for them over the past few seasons.

How can he improve Manchester United?

Manchester United have been lining up without a solid right back for a while now. Only Lindelof has been the only player who has grown in stature during last season. Koulibaly could partner up with the Swedish centre-back to offer more security and reliability at the back. He has been one of the best Centre-backs in Serie A this season.

Unlike Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, his error-free passing could be of huge benefit for the football which Solskjaer wants his team to play. Lindelof is also a good ball distributor and adding Koulibaly could help United to play from the back.
