Manchester United and Chelsea could sign Kurt Zouma

Kurt Zouma

The Express report Saint-Etienne could lose 18-year old centre-back Kurt Zouma, if a big bid comes in. The defender has been linked with the likes of Man United, Chelsea and Man City, according to The Express.

Recent weeks have seen Nemanja Vidic linked with a move to Juventus in the summer as Moyes looks to put his own influence on the Red Devils squad. With Rio Ferdinand surely not far from the end of his playing days, the former Everton manager must find replacements fast if he is to help the club challenge for trophies.

At the heart of his scouting pool is the Saint Etienne powerhouse, Zouma. Having been recently called up to the France senior squad for the first time, Zouma has found himself linked with top clubs all over Europe including United’s city rivals Manchester City.

City themselves are in a precarious position in the centre of defence as their captain, Vincent Kompany, has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons. While Chelsea may need a powerful centre-back, especially with Terry coming to the twilight of his career. Both of the clubs interest may be in vein though, as Zouma has kept calm under the spotlight and has recently committed his future to his boyhood club.

In an interview with Le10Sport in France, Zouma stated his affection for the club and why he has always turned down offers from bigger clubs in the past so he can repay the faith Saint Etienne has showed in him.

“This extension is a great vote of confidence in me from the club. St Etienne means a lot to me because it is where I was developed.” said the 18-year old defender.

“This is a new step in my career. I still need to learn. I will also gain experience and I know that will help me to grow.”

This will be fantastic news to Saint Etienne who, despite their claims, could surely not turn down an amount of money that would allow them to bring in 3 or 4 quality players.

The 18-year-old has won eight of his nine tackles this season, meaning he has a 89% tackle success rate this term.
