Rumour: Manchester United target Christian Zapata happy at AC Milan
AC Milan defender, Cristian Zapata has distanced himself from speculation of him moving to the Premier League in the January transfer window. The defender is said to be happy in Italy, and is not considering jumping ship anytime soon.
The 27-year old has been in inspired form for the Rossineris this season, despite the club languishing in the bottom half of the Italian Serie A. However, the defender is adamant that he wishes to play out the remainder of his contract at the San Siro, which ends in 2016.
He said: “I do not know anything. I am just thinking about Milan. I have a contract until 2016 and I want to stay here.”
This comes as a blow to the likes of Manchester United who are said to be tracking the former Villarreal man. Sources suggest that the champions have sent out Phil Neville to scout the promising Columbian on more occasions than one.
Manchester United need re-enforcements in a number of positions, one of which is the centre of defence. With Rio Ferdinand past his prime, and the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones yet to impress, the manager will look to dip into the January transfer window to consolidate his defensive options.
