Rumour: Manchester United consider offering Premier League return to Ex-Arsenal man Gervinho

Gervinho has had one of his best spells of his career ever since joining Roma

Manchester United are reportedly considering offering a surprise Premier League lifeline to former Arsenal flop Gervinho after the Ivorian forward enjoyed a fine season at Roma, reports the Daily Express.

Gervinho only left Arsenal last summer after failing to impress in the Premier League, but has gone on to enjoy a fine season in Serie A as Roma finished as runners-up to Juventus.

United have been linked with a host of players over the course of the summer as they plot a summer rebuild in the region of £150 million under new manager Louis Van Gaal, who has already ruled out Toni Kroos joining United and they are believed to be contemplating taking advantage of Gervinho’s current disputes with Roma.

Gervinho is of the opinion that his performances over the course of the season and Roma’s subsequent qualification for the Champions League should warrant him a pay-rise and an extension to his current deal at the club, but with Roma still not in a financial position to throw money around just yet, they are unwilling to discuss terms with the Ivory Coast man.

A release clause of £16million is believed to exist in Gervinho’s contract currently and United could take advantage of his pay dispute with Roma to bring him back to England in a cut-price deal, saving money for other big-name acquisitions.
