Manchester United hit by Daley Blind injury; to be sidelined for six weeks
Netherlands midfielder Daley Blind is well on the verge of being sidelined for a significant amount of time after inflicting an injury on his medial collateral ligament during Netherlands’ 6-0 Euro 2016 qualifier win against Latvia on Sunday evening.
United are looking at a minimum of six weeks without their new recruit of the summer as hinted by the Dutch Football Association. Blind’s injury occurred after he suffered a knock from a challenge against Eduards Visnakovs in the first half. He had to be immediately replaced by Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasie.
Blind didn’t need to be stretchered off the pitch and initially it was assumed that the injury wasn’t a concerning one. But Dutch coach Guus Hiddink revealed later that the blow he suffered was serious.
"It doesn't look good. It's his medial ligament. It could be a strain, but it could also be a tear. So that's a big blow," he said.
Blind’s injury will be a big blow for United manager Louis Van Gaal who already has a bunch of players missing from his starting line up. With his central defender Marcos Rojo still recovering from a dislocated shoulder, the 24-year-old’s absence is bound to increase his worries.
