Manchester United news: Arjen Robben advises Memphis Depay to leave Old Trafford in January
Dutch international Arjen Robben has suggested that Memphis Depay should look for a move away from Manchester United if he is to resurrect his faltering career.
Having arrived from Dutch club, PSV Eindhoven for a sum of £25 million, the Dutchman was one of the first signings of the Louis Van Gaal era. However, the winger failed to cement a berth in the first team after inconsistent performances.
Robben who has been an international teammate of the youngster is aware of the youngster’s qualities and recently stated, “He is a very talented player. It's a pity it didn't work at Manchester until now. He's playing very few matches. I'm expecting something to happen next time, maybe he will make a move in the winter break.”
Interested clubs
Reports emanating from the Manchester United winger as early as November reveal that the winger is open to a loan move in January, with Turkish club Fenerbache being the most interested club.
At the time, Dick Advocaat had even expressed his admiration for the winger stating, “The potential is there for him to be a good player. You cannot lose that. He has the quality to be a top player but the problem for him is that there are so many quality players in that squad”
Another club that might be interested in signing the youngster in the January transfer window is none other than Merseyside club, Everton. According to reports, in the Sportsmail, Ronald Koeman is keen to bring the winger to Goodison Park on a six-month loan deal.
Everton recently lost Yannick Bolasie for the rest of the season and need cover on the wings and Koeman has identified Depay as one of the replacements. The Dutchman is also keen on signing his Manchester United compatriot, Morgan Schneiderlin who remains a top priority target for the Everton manager.
There have been indications that Jose Mourinho will not oppose such advances as he is keen to ensure that his players stay happy. Speaking to the media, Mourinho stated, “I am always open to listen to offers for every player. Any player who knocks on my door and is not happy and wants to move, when the offers are correct, I will never stop a player from leaving, even if it is to a rival. When [Juan] Mata left Chelsea to come to United, no problem at all. I am always open.
