Manchester United offers a helping hand to Barnsley
Ahead of the sixth round FA Cup clash between Manchester City and Barnsley, Manchester United have opened the doors of their Carrington headquarters for the visiting team.
Following their 1-1 draw against Burnley, Barnsley boss David Flitcroft went about the surrounding area Manchester looking for a place for his team to practice for the next three days.
Flitcroft, quite literally, hit the jackpot when Manchester United agreed to let the team use their Trafford Training Center, more commonly called the Carrington Grounds. The club was given disposal of the not just the ground, but also its lavish facilities.
This incident comes just day after Manchester City shockingly allowed Real Madrid to use the Etihad for training, ahead of their Champions League showdown with Manchester United.
A confident David Flitcroft will be facing his older brother’s former club and will be able to give the Premier League champions a good run for their money, owing to his meticulous planning. David Flitcroft is the younger brother of former Manchester City player, Garry Flitcroft.
“The key thing is making sure our energy levels are up. So we have been recovering from our recent exertions and doing all the right things to get them back up to A-class.” said the Barnsley boss. He went on to say “Whatever has been thrown at us in the League or Cup, we have been able to compete, and that is the intention today. City are elite in every aspect, so it will be a challenge.”
With a record reading eight wins, two draws and three defeats in the 13 games, a nervous David says the journey has not been easy as he narrates, “I remember going to bed after the draw was made and dreaming we were up against a strike force of Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Sergio Aguero. I woke up in a cold sweat and realised we were playing Wolves the following Tuesday.”
