Manchester United’s chances of signing Thomas Muller appear to be over after the Bayern Munich forward signed a new deal with the German champions.

Muller, 24, is currently preparing with the Germany World Cup squad and has been linked with a move to Manchester United for some time now.

New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal gave the forward his Bayern Munich debut and the Dutch boss had been hopeful of persuading Muller to link up with him once again at Man United Old Trafford.

Muller said that he was delighted to sign a new deal and that he felt that Bayern would be part of his future for a long time.

Speaking to the club’s website he said “Shortly before the start of the World Cup, I’m very happy about extending my contract with FC Bayern until 2019. We held very good talks with the management of the club, which made it clear to me that I’m in the right place here.

“I have the feeling I’m an important component in the club’s plans. FC Bayern Munich has been my club since 2000 and will remain my club in the years to come.”

Muller came through the club’s youth system and over 150 times for Bayern Munich now. He scored 13 times this season and has won plenty of plaudits for the way he is able to find space in the box.

It had been suggested that Muller, who boasts impressive versatility, could have looked for a move away from Bayern in the summer in order to secure regular first team football but this new deal squashes those rumours.
