Manchester United trail behind Liverpool and Paris-Saint Germain in race for Memphis Depay
Marcel Brands, the Director of PSV Eindhoven said that Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are ahead of Manchester United in the race for Memphis Depay. While speaking with Fox Sports, Brands said PSG and Liverpool have followed up on their interests, while United have done nothing apart from making an initial contact. He also mentioned the lack of interest shown by Bayern Munich.
PSV have come to terms with the fact that the Netherland youngster might leave at the end of this season, but the expect to get good money for the top scorer of the Eredivisie. Although Louis van Gaal’s relationship with Depay gives Manchester United an edge over the other teams, the director of PSV feels United needs more to attain the player’s signature.
"They [PSG and Liverpool] are indeed a step ahead of Manchester United," he said.
"They [United] have only informed us about their interest."
Bayern not interested in Depay: Marcel Brands
The player has been linked to several top clubs across Europe, but pointed out that one of the biggest names in the list had not shown any interests: "Bayern Munich, despite what I've read, are not one of them."
He added: "It is only logical that there is so much interest in him. Memphis is enormously efficient for a young player. He should be very proud."
Depay had the following to say about the attention he is attracting: "It is a dream to make a transfer with such a big impact, but I already said: there is a lot of speculation and a lot of stories, but I don't know how things will work out, so let's wait and see."
The player has scored 27 times this season and is expected to cost in the range of €30 million.
