What's the story?

With the transfer window coming to end in a few days, Manchester United have reportedly reignited their interest in Inter Milan forward, Ivan Perisic.

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, the EPL giants are planning on a late move for the Croatian forward. Perisic had been heavily linked with the Red Devils during the last summer when Jose Mourinho was in charge of the Old Trafford.

In case you didn't know...

Ivan Perisic has been an exceptional performer both for his club, Inter Milan, and his country, Croatia, who were the runner-ups of the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia.

Last summer, the Red Devils reportedly submitted a bid of €50 million to secure the services of the Croatian. However, the deal did not materialize, as Luciano Spalletti's intervention convinced the forward to stay with Inter.

The heart of the matter

Mourinho's departure was thought to have ended United's interest in the World Cup runner-up. However, according to the report, the Red Devils are keen on signing the 29-year-old, late in this winter transfer window. Talking about his failed summer move to EPL, Perisic said,

‘It’s true that an offer from Manchester United was on the table and I was close to leaving Inter. But I decided to stay and, as I said, Luciano Spalletti’s perseverance to keep me played a big role. In football, small details in these situations are key. Admiration from a coach like Jose Mourinho is definitely something that flattered me. It’s confirmation of hard work and good performances."

Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's arrival at the Old Trafford, the EPL giants are yet to face a defeat in the Premier League. They are currently on a seven-match winning streak in all competitions. The United hierarchy is desperate to sign a top-notch right winger for the club and have turned their heads back to Perisic, who might finally be on his way to Old Trafford.

Perisic's performances have not been up to the mark, this season. Hence, according to Corriere Della Serra, the Italian giants are willing to offload the winger and have quoted a price tag of €40 million. The only obstacle in United's pursuit of the winger is time, as the window is about to end in a few days.

Rumor rating: 6/10

With the Red Devils desperate to sign a top-quality winger, Perisic may be the right suitor for their pursuit.

It remains to be seen if the transfer will actually take place in the coming days, or if the EPL giants will have to wait for another window to finally bag Perisic.

What's next?

Solskjaer's United reign has painted a sense of confidence on the faces of the United squad; the players seem to be enjoying themselves and look like they're full of belief.

Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford have been exceptional under the Norwegian tactician. Following a brilliant start to his Manchester United caretaking tenure, Solskjaer would now aim for the top-four spot in the EPL, coupled with an urge to mount greats campaigns in the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League. And Perisic's addition could only help Solskjaer bolster that spot.
