Manchester United transfer rumour: Jose Mourinho keeping a keen eye on Harry Kane

Harry Kane and Tottenham are yet to agree on a new contract

Manchester United are on red alert after Tottenham Hotspur and Harry Kane failed to reach an agreement over a new deal. Even though Kane’s current contract with Spurs expires only in June 2020, the England international is keen on signing a new deal with the club which would have a significant pay rise from his current wages of  £60,000-a-week.

Tottenham have also failed to tie down Hugo Lloris as both Lloris and Kane are expecting at least £100,000-a-week in their new deals. The fact that summer recruitment Moussa Sissoko is on £95,000-a-week adds more substance to the demands of the duo. However, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly reluctant to meet their demands much to the worry of Tottenham fans.

Manchester United are monitoring the situation and are rumoured to be preparing a £150,000 a week deal for the England hitman. United consider Kane as the long-term replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Based on United’s recent performances, it is obvious that the Red Devils need a clinical finisher up front and Harry Kane is certainly one of the best strikers in the division. The 23-year-old has made 89 appearances in the league for Spurs scoring 52 goals.

Former Arsenal Midfielder, Ray Parlour thinks Manchester United will definitely make a move to secure the services of Kane.

“I'm sure Manchester United will be looking at him," he told talkSPORT. “They will be thinking 'okay Ibrahimovic is here at the moment but he's getting on a bit’. 'We might need a new striker soon’. He could be perfect for Manchester United."

Kane is the vice-captain of Tottenham and a key figure in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting eleven. His importance to the side became more obvious as Spurs struggled for goals while Kane was sidelined since his side’s game against Sunderland back in September after he suffered an ankle injury during the match.

Kane won the Premier League golden boot last season after he had found the back of the net 25 times and Daniel Levy would know that letting Kane force his way out will be a mistake. The Tottenham hierarchy will have to agree to Kane’s demands or they might end up losing their prized asset and if the 23-year-old decides to leave the club, there will possibly be a battle for his signature between some of the big clubs in the Premier League.

Apart from Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested in the England international. Tottenham will be expecting at least £50 million for their talisman should they decide to let him go.
