Report: Manchester United's Wayne Rooney to visit India and promote second edition of ISL
The second edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) is set to welcome some of the biggest names in the sport who will play in stadiums across the country soon. Following the news of Pele flying in to attend an ISL match in Kolkata in October, the fans may be in for another treat as there are rumours of Rooney paying a visit to India in November, according to The Times of India.
India’s national football team is yet to make their breakthrough in the international scene, but the country will be raining with megastars during the course of the tournament. And former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, a co-owner of Atletico de Kolkata, has confirmed the visit of Manchester United’s striker Wayne Rooney.
"Wayne Rooney is coming to the city in November," he said before leaving his Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) office on Wednesday.
If the reports turn out to be true, the England international will be in town to promote the second edition of ISL .
The 29-year-old is expected to arrive in the second or third week of November, but his visit has not been finalised. No doubt Wayne Rooney works on a tight schedule with club and international football in his plate, but efforts are being made to squeeze out a two or three-day schedule for the United striker.
Rooney to visit during international break in November?
Wayne Rooney is believed to have a break from club duty from November 8 to 20. However, the Three lions are scheduled to play two international friendlies against Spain on November 13 and France on November 17.
The Premier League star’s visit may include to one or two other ISL centres as well, apart from his visit to the hub of Indian football – Kolkata.

Brazillian legend to visit India for Subroto Cup final
Meanwhile, Brazil legend Pele has also confirmed his visit to the country this October. This is not the first time Pele will be paying a visit to India. The last time the 74-year-old flew in to the country was 38 years ago.
Regarded as football’ s greatest player ever, he will grace the Subroto Cup final and will be accompanied by hosts of Indian sporting heroes, including the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar.
