Did Argentina deserve a penalty for Neuer's horrific collision against Higuain?
If it wasn’t already horrific enough to see Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer clash heavily into Argentina forward Gonzalo Higuain in the World Cup final on Sunday, it was worse to see Italian referee Nicola Rizzoli award Germany a free-kick instead.
It could be definitely be argued that Neuer had gone for the ball earlier, and that Higuain was going against a player who was permitted to use his hands since he was inside the box.
In the second half of the match, the ball was left racing down the field with Higuain putting on a chase after it. Neuer was coming towards the ball too, however, in the opposite direction. In order to get to the ball first, Neuer jumped and punched the ball away, inadvertently kneeing Higuain on the head in the process.
