Marco Asensio beats Cristiano Ronaldo and teammates to 2016/17 record
Real Madrid wonder kid Marco Asensio has beaten superstar Cristiano Ronaldo as well as his other Real Madrid teammates to become the first player to score in all 3 competitions this season.
Asensio bagged a goal in Real Madrid’s 5-1 rout of Legia Warsaw in the Champions League on Tuesday. The Spaniard had previously scored on his La Liga and UEFA Super Cup debuts and his goal in the Champions League now means that he has also scored on his Champions League debut, a remarkable feat indeed.

Apart from that, he became Real Madrid’s first player to score in all 3 competitions, an achievement that Cristiano Ronaldo usually lays claim to.
Ronaldo, however, has been in poor form for Los Blancos this season. He has just 4 goals in 8 appearances and failed to get on the scoresheet against Legia despite having 9 shots on goal.
Asensio joined Real Madrid from Mallorca in 2014 but was loaned back to Mallorca and then Espanyol the following season. At Espanyol, Asensio was a regular starter and featured 34 times for the club scoring 4 goals in the process.
This year, however, he has managed to break into Real’s starting lineup and has already made a name for himself. The 20-year-old has been touted as one for the future and his emergence has kept players like Isco and James on the Madrid bench. He has, in fact, been one of Real’s bright spots in a topsy-turvy campaign so far.
The youngster also made his international debut earlier this year and has 2 caps for Spain.

Real Madrid next face Bilbao on Monday morning at the Bernabeu and will be hoping to usurp Atletico Madrid at the top of the table. Zinedine Zidane’s side sit second but only due to an inferior goal difference. Simeone’s men have had a fine start to both the La Lia and Champions League and travel to Sevilla on Sunday in what is expected to be a tricky fixture for the Los Rojiblancos.
