Marcos Falopa resigns as East Bengal coach

Marcos Falopa bids adieu

Marcos Falopa’s short tenure as East Bengal coach came to an end today, after he resigned from his post. He revealed his decision just after East Bengal’s Calcutta Football League encounter against Peerless SC in which the red and gold brigade triumphed 2-1.

At the post-match press conference, Falopa was quoted by PTI: “East Bengal was like my family and I tried my best to work together but this is football.

“When you don’t play to your potential, you make excuses that your position was changed. We did not fare so badly as we played the AFC Cup semis.”

He mentioned that due to ‘private problems’ he had resigned.

In the thick of Falopa’s announcement ‘bring back Morgan’ chants were heard from the fans, although ex-Dempo coach, Armando Colaco is most likely to take over as the new coach.

Club secretary, Kalyan Majumder confirmed that they had received an E-mail from the British coach on Tuesday. He said: “I get many job applications from unemployed coaches everyday, Morgan too has written to me.

“It’s the football secretary who will take the call.”

With 10 days to go before the much awaited Kolkata derby, this would be a serious setback for the club.

Falopa was at the helm of affairs for just 11 matches in which his performance sheet showed 5 victories, 4 defeats and 2 draws.

East Bengal fans would eagerly wait as to see who would take charge as the new coach.
