Marcus Rashford joined Manchester United after saying no to Liverpool

Rashford, a star in the making?

Marcus Rashford has become a local hero after his dream debut for Manchester United. The forward scored twice against FC Midtjylland during after United thrashed the Danish side 5-1. But Rashford’s talent was spotted when he was just starting out and according to the founder oF Fletcher Moss’ chairman Ron Jamieson.

The youngster attracted interest from several big clubs but chose to join Manchester United because of one simple reason. “He's a United fan” said Ron Jamieson speaking to Manchester Evening News.

“Once they came in for him I don't think they'd have chosen anyone else. Everton, United and Liverpool, they were all clamouring around him.” he added.

Everton in particular were very interested in taking the youngster and tried their best to lure him.

"Everton were quite keen on him” he said “They actually swamped a particular tournament in 2005 and had Everton scouts at every single game and they were quite keen for him to go down to the training ground. But he wasn't too keen, to be fair, and neither were his parents” he added.

The chairman was also quite surprised at how he has grown saying, “He was small until he was 14, I'm only 5ft 5 and I spoke to him as a 14-year-old when he came down to watch one of the games and he was as tall as me. I thought 'Are you going to shoot up?' I was a bit worried about his size.”

"But he's just had a growth spurt, he's a good six-footer now, he must be. When he came to us he was only a little fella and (United Under-21s defender) Ro-Shaun Williams towered above him.”

Rashford is another of Fletcher Moss’ graduates along with Tyler Blackett, Jesse Lingard and Camron Borthwick-Jackson who have made the United academy and then gone to break into the first team. But Jamieson insists that there always something about the youngster.

“As well as taking players on for a youngster, there was just something about him. It was always a spectacular goal. His interest in football just stood out. He made goals as well as scored goals.”

"If Marcus got his chance he would be a star and it's proved to be right”.

Rashford might start at Arsenal

United currently facing an injury crisis with up to 13 players in the treatment room. The most recent of them was their best outfield plyer so far this season, Martial who suffered a problem on training last time out.

So it looks like Van Gaal might have to turn to Rashford once again as they play Arsenal on Sunday. He is already the youngest ever player to score in a European competition for the club and if he scores against Arsenal Sunday he will cement his place in United history.
