Mario Götze unveiled as an official Bayern Munich player
German Bundesliga giants FC Bayern Munich today at a press conference unveiled their latest acquisition, German international midfielder Mario Götze from rivals Borussia Dortmund. Mario Götze has been given the number 19 jersey, the number he wears with the German national team. The club’s fans will have to wait a little longer to see him in training or in friendly matches, as he still hasn’t overcome an injury which he picked up against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
Götze said, “My priority is simply to get fit and play football again! I’m just delighted to be here,” the 21-year-old said when he first entered the club’s Säbener Strasse media centre. “It’s a great moment,” commented Director for Sport Matthias Sammer, “this is a good day for Bayern. As a club, we’re delighted to welcome one of the most outstanding players in the world.”
For Götze moving to Bayern Munich is like a home coming, as he was born in Bavaria’s Memmingen before moving to Dortmund as a child with his family. Interestingly his older brother Fabian has also moved across the Ruhr valley from VfL Bochom II to SpVgg Unterhaching this summer, which Mario feels makes it easier for both of them as they are set to move into a joint apartment towards the end of the month.
Mario Götze hasn’t been part of training at Bayern so far, but he has been watching the training sessions led by new coach Pep Guardiola. “You see he does a great deal of work with the ball, with lots of short, quick passing,” Mario noted, “it gives me a very, very good feeling.” Matthias Sammer added, “it’s a style made for Mario!”
Götze added, “It’s something new and something special for me to be here. I have a great feeling here!”
This will be music to these ears of the Bayern Munich fans…
