Mario Götze has his first gala performance in a FC Bayern Munich shirt

Mario Goetze

German international and FC Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Mario Götze is one of the brightest youngsters in world football, but injuries in the last couple of seasons have not allowed him to show what great footballer he is at a young age.

Over the summer, Mario Götze left Borussia Dortmund to join Bayern Munich for a Bundesliga record 37 million Euros, but he has remained injury prone with many in Munich questioning if signing Mario Götze was a good decision.

But on Saturday afternoon Mario Götze showed what a class player he is at the age of just 21.

At the break, Mainz 05 were surprisingly leading 1-0 at the Allianz Arena against the Bavarians whose 33-match unbeaten Bundesliga run was in danger.

FC Bayern coach Pep Guardiola decided to bring Götze after the break and he changed the complexion of the game with Götze setting-up Bayern Munich’s first three goals in the 4-1 win.

Especially after coming on, Mario Götze was in the thick of action as FC Bayern turned things around in 113 seconds with Arjen Robben and Thomas Müller scoring both of passes from Götze.

After the match Götze said, “I’m naturally pleased. I just wanted to help the team. We were in a complicated position: Mainz basically stopped us making chances, and then we fell behind. We came up with much better solutions in the second half, we found gaps and we were more determined in front of goal.”

The second session was the first real gala performance in a Bayern Munich shirt for Mario Götze, but surely not his last.
