Juventus confirm Mario Mandzukic signing pending medical
Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic has arrived in Turin for his medical, after terms were agreed between Atletico Madrid and Juventus last week.
Juventus coach Masimilliano Allegri had already indicated a move for the soon-to-be former Atletico Madrid player last week, having said that he admires the player’s qualities.
The following tweet was posted by the Seria A champions, confirming the player’s arrival in Turin:
On the prospect of joining the 2014/15 Champions’ League finalists, the 29-year-old said, “You can be certain that I will give everything for this shirt, this is my new home,” via the club’s official website.
Mandzukic’s move comes on the back of the imminent departure of Argentine international Carlos Tevez, who wishes to return to Argentina with Boca Juniors, before the end of his contract with the Bianconeri.
The Croatian’s move to the Italian giant comes with a peculiar record of having joined three clubs that had in the previous year lost in the Champions League final – Bayern Munich (2012), Atletico Madrid (2014) and now Juventus (2015).
Mandzukic had a good season with Atletico Madrid scoring 20 goals and assisting 5 in all competitions. However, with the Spanish club linked with the likes of Jackson Martinez and Luciano Vietto and Carlos Tevez’s reported return to Boca Juniors, it might be a move that will see the striker get good game time next season as well.
