Mark Bosnich: Patrice Evra new deal will not effect Manchester United’s move for Luke Shaw
Patrice Evra signing a new contract extension at Manchester United will not affect the Red Devils’ move for Southampton defender Luke Shaw, according to former goalkeeper Mark Bosnich.
Evra signed a new one-year extension last week and there were reports suggesting that the extension to his deal could signal the end of the manhunt for Southampton left-back, Luke Shaw.
Shaw was reportedly not happy that Evra signed new deal, believing that he may not be a first-team regular if he joins the Red Devils in the summer, however, Bosnich says the Frenchman staying at the club has no baring on a move for England international, Shaw. Bosnich also believes Evra staying on is a good thing for the club, as healthy competition will keep both Evra and Shaw on their toes as they battle it out for a starting berth.
Bosnich told reporters: “Luke Shaw should be thinking of himself as the future.
“Even if he goes there for a season with Evra, it will be good competition for him.“Van Gaal’s just making sure he’s got enough cover in every position.”
Shaw is reportedly in talks with Manchester United after being heavily linked with the club for several months, however, Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the defender.
Evra created 38 chances in the Premier League this season, the second-highest in the United side.
