Doutie inspires Atletico de Kolkata's 4-0 thrashing of FC Goa
Atletico de Kolkata were the rampant side against FC Goa who seemed clueless on the pitch despite handing a 7-0 thrashing to Mumbai City FC last time around. This time they were on the losing side as the home team cruised to a 3-0 win on the back of goals from Doutie, Hume and Borja.
FC Goa started as the more aggressive side with Dudu, who scored a hat-trick in the last game, taking a shot on Amrinder Singh's goal in the very first minute of the game. Few minutes later, Leo Moura tried a shot from an acrobatic effort, but his shot was off target.
Soon, Rino Anto's back pass for Arnab Mondal was intercepted by Dudu, and he looked clear in on goal, but his final effort was just wide. Atletico de Kolkata were forced to defend in the early parts of the game, and were lucky not to concede in the opening ten minutes of the game.
In the 14th minute, Iain Hume played a brilliant cross inside the penalty box, but Doutie was just a yard short, then seconds later the Canadian had a go himself, and his shot was just wide.
Atletico de Kolkata looked to get back into the game after surviving the opening few minutes, and Iain Hume was leading from the front. Sameegh Doutie put the home side ahead in the 20th minute from a Jamie Gavilan pass, which left the South African clear on goal, and he did well to capitalize on it and put it past Kattimani.
A couple of minutes later, Borja Fernandez extended Atletico de Kolkata’s lead with a stunning strike from just outside the penalty box. After starting strongly. FC Goa failed to put a string of passes together, and looked like they’ll concede more.
Atletico de Kolkata looked comfortable on the ball after taking the two-goal lead, but both sides failed to create much after that in the first half. Denson Devdas was brought on for Gregory Arnolin just before the break by Zico owing to an injury to the FC Goa defender.
After the break, FC Goa started on the front foot again just like the first half, but they failed to produce any clear-cut chances in the opening minutes. Atletico de Kolkata’s Tiri once again looked solid in the defense, and did well to keep Dudu in check.
For Atletico de Kolkata, Jamie Gavilan and Sameegh Doutie looked more motivated than others in their hunt for the third goal. Zico brought on Reinaldo in the 55th minute to shuffle things around as FC Goa struggled to create something productive in the opening minutes of the second half.
Dudu had a chance to bring his team back into the game in the 61st minute, but his shot took a deflection, and went wide of the goal. A couple of minutes later, Dudu created a chance for Brazilian striker Reinaldo, but he failed to create anything out of it, and his shot was easily collected by Amrinder Singh.
In the 64th minute, Rino Anto made a brilliant run on the right side to create a chance for Iain Hume, but the Canadian striker failed to extend his team’s lead. Hume made up for it in the 68th minute from the spot kick after Colaco fouled Doutie inside the penalty box, and Iain Hume did well to put it past Kattimani to score his 6th goal of the season.
FC Goa looked clueless as Antonio Habas’ Atletico de Kolkata looked in total control of the game after the opening few minutes, and were the more hard working side. The home side though didn’t stop there, Doutie scored his second goal of the game in the 78th minute to make it 4-0 to Atletico de Kolkata.
Nato’s long pass fell to Doutie inside the penalty box, and he did brilliantly to get the better of the FC Goa defenders and rounded the goalkeeper to put the ball in the net. A couple of minutes later, substitute Arata Izumi had a golden chance of scoring Atletico de Kolkata’s fifth goal of the night, but his shot from just six yards was way off target.
Atletico de Kolkata totally dominated the FC Goa side that beat Mumbai City FC 7-0 in their last game, and with this win they now move to the top of the table, and are almost certain to qualify for the playoffs. Atletico de Kolkata also kept the first clean sheet of the season after 11 games.
