“Mbappe should have shut his mouth” - France legend blasts Kylian Mbappe over European Championship vs World Cup comparison
French football legend Patrice Evra has blasted national team captain Kylian Mbappe after the latter compared the FIFA World Cup and Euros. The Real Madrid forward is set to lead Les Bleus to a first major tournament as captain following the retirement of Hugo Lloris after the 2022 World Cup.
Mbappe was quoted as saying that the European Championship is a tougher competition than the FIFA World Cup earlier this month. The 25-year-old has enjoyed great success in the Mundial, winning it as a teenager in 2018 and earning a silver medal in Qatar two years ago.
The comments by Mbappe have not been well-received, with a number of Argentine players responding to him, including Lionel Messi. The reaction has now come from one of his compatriots, Patrice Evra, who made his thoughts known while speaking on Football Extra via the Sony News Network.
Evra accused Kylian Mbappe of lacking experience and advised that he should have refrained from saying anything of the sort. He further criticized the forward as having no right to air such an opinion, seeing as he hasn't played in any of the other international competitions.
“If you haven’t played in a competition, don’t talk about it. Mbappe should have shut his mouth. If you have an opinion keep it to yourself. This is a lack of experience from him.”
Patrice Evra is a France legend, having played 81 times for Les Bleus during his international career. He also starred for Manchester United, winning the UEFA Champions League and multiple Premier League titles at the club.
Kylian Mbappe announces Olympics snub due to Real Madrid commitment
New Real Madrid Galactico Kylian Mbappe has confirmed that he will not participate in the Olympic Games as part of the French contingent. The France captain was touted to be selected as one of three overage players allowed in the U-23 tournament.
The 25-year-old has revealed that his new club have been firm in maintaining that he will not be allowed to play in the tournament. He did, however, pledge his unconditional support for Thierry Henry's side at the tournament in a press conference.
"My club's position was very clear, so from that moment on, I think I [knew] I won't be taking part in the Games."
"That's just the way it is, and I understand that too. I'm joining a new team in September, so it's not the best way to start an adventure.
"I'm going to wish this French team all the best. I'm going to watch every game. I hope they'll win the gold medal."
Kylian Mbappe will complete his widely anticipated move to Real Madrid immediately after the Euros, but will look to lead France to glory this summer, first. Les Bleus have not won the European Championship in 24 years, and he will be keen to remedy that.
