Mehdi Benatia unsure of future at AS Roma

Staying with AS Roma or making a move?

AS Roma’s 27 year old centre back Mehdi Benatia is unsure over his future, after admitting that the club’s new offer was disappointing. He has been stunningly impressive for Rudi Garcia’s team, and his form is attracting interest from European giants like Manchester United, FC Barcelona, FC Bayern Munich and current English champion Manchester City. Benatia joined Roma last summer, making a switch from Udinese.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Benatia said, "I never said I want to leave. But Roma has not kept their promises. They had told me that they would make me a new contract offer if I had a great season.

"But I have received an unacceptable proposal, less than €3million per season. I replied that I would not sign it.

"I'm in love with Rome, I'm very fine here, but my mistake was to be too correct with the club and too honest."

"I only said that anyone dreams of teams like Real, Bayern and City.

"My agent is doing his job, I could leave but I could also stay and finish my career in Roma. But I was disappointed (with the new wage offer), I deserved more respect."

AS Roma manager Rudi Garcia also earlier said that the defender will not be leaving the Italian capital and has four years left on his contract, but the comments made by Benatia are confusing, as he said that he may end up staying with the club or maybe make a move to a bigger club who will satisfy his wage demands.
