Reports: Memphis Depay and three other stars to be sold by Manchester United
Manchester United are prepared to sell Dutch winger, Memphis Depay, at the end of the season along with a host of other stars as they look to once again rebuild their squad, report The Sun. The Dutchman joined the Red Devils last summer from PSV and has since failed to impress the manager or the crowds.
Along with Depay, English defender Phil Jones is set to be sold as well, followed by Frenchman Morgan Schneiderlin and Argentine keeper, Sergio Romero. United are outsiders in the race for a UEFA Champions League spot and have already been eliminated from both the Champions and the Europa League this season.
Currently in fifth place in the Premier League, manager Louis van Gaal has targetted multiple players he wishes to sign in the summer including the likes of Real Madrid's James Rodriguez and Paris Saint-Germain's Zlatan Ibrahimovic who are at the top of his list.
Memphis – who joined United in the summer for €27.5m – has managed to score only 5 goals in 37 appearances for the club failing to nail down a regular first team spot. Youth prospects, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford have been chosen ahead of the Dutchman in recent weeks outlining the manager’s lack of the faith in the former PSV man.
Morgan Schneiderlin, meanwhile, has been a decent signing for Louis van Gaal but the manager prefers the likes of Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger ahead of the Frenchman – something which was irked fans and critics alike given the influence the former Southampton man can have on matches when given a chance.
Elsewhere, with David de Gea already signed on for a few more years, the future of Sergio Romero was thrown into the light with River Plate vice-president claiming his side were interested in signing the keeper. Speaking to the press, Matias Patanian said: “River is always interested in good players — and Romero is one of them.”
