Messi's tattoos

The world is abuzz with news on football and the World Cup and one of the players who is expected to deliver the trophy for his country is the Argentine Captain Lionel Messi. The current face of football alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi has tattooed his son Thiago’s name on his left calf. The multi-billion dollar left leg of Messi now sports the tattoo of his infant’s hands along with the name, ‘Thiago’ inscribed under it. The pictures were first released by his brother and initially many felt that it could be representing Diego Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ goal, but those rumours were put to rest when they saw his son’s name below the hands.

He had it inked last year after been given the afternoon off by Argentine coach, Alejandro Sabella, Lionel Messi spent his time in his apartment in the district of Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires, getting his left calf tattooed with the name of his son along with a set of the baby’s hands. The tattoo itself is not much to look at and many responded to this tattoo, criticizing the artist on doing a shabby job but this would do little to bother the Argentine superstar for whom stitching the name of his son on his boots was not enough. He now honors his son by inscribing him on the very leg that has championed Barcelona through several titles and trophies.

Already sporting a tattoo of his mother on his left shoulder which he had inked in 2011, his next installation leaves us in no doubt as to who are the most important people in his life.
