Michael Clarke's wife Kyly hits back at Lara Bingle over split comments
Australian captain Michael Clarke‘s wife has hit back at model Lara Bingle, previously engaged to Clarke, over comments made by Bingle prior to the start of the Ashes.
In an interview given by Bingle before the Ashes began in November, the model had said that the best thing she ever did was dump Clarke. Talking about the split which happened in 2010, Bingle had said : “The best thing I ever did was leave. I got to experience all these opportunities. Otherwise, I would have three children by now. I felt like I was living in his dream.”
Bingle added : “I was 19 when I got engaged. I’m just glad I’ve been honest and true to myself through this whole experience.”
Clarke and Bingle were involved in a high profile relationship which drew constant attention from the media. The couple sold the news of their engagement to New Idea and Clarke even had Bingle’s initials tattooed on his body.
The relationship also put Clarke’s commitment to and involvement in the team’s cause into question with former Australian captain Ricky Ponting expressing disapproval of Clarke’s behaviour in his book At the Close of Play.
“Away from cricket, he moved in a different world to the rest of us,” Ponting wrote. “It never worried me if a bloke didn’t want a drink in the dressing room, but I did wonder about blokes who didn’t see the value in sticking around for a chat and a laugh and a post-mortem on the day’s play.”
Kyly Boldly, now Kyle Clarke after getting married to the cricketer in 2012, has jumped to the defence of her husband. When discussing Bingle, Mrs Clarke said: “I don’t see the media as a forum to talk about yourself.”
Mrs.Clarke also said that anything Miss Bingle says about her husband is ‘water off a duck’s back’.
