MLS: Seattle Sounders FC-Colorado Rapids statistical preview
Team News
Seattle Sounders FC
- Obafemi Martins looks set to miss out for the Seattle Sounders, with Eddie Johnson expected to replace him in the lineup against the Colorado Rapids.
- Shalrie Jospeh and Steve Zakuani are still ruled out from action, with Adam Moffat expected to start in the the centre of midfield.
- Colorado Rapids
- Oscar Pareja is likely to stick with the starting XI that played in the 3-0 defeat to the Vancouver Whitecaps at the weekend.
- The Colorado Rapids will be without Kory Kindle and Davy Armstrong, who have been ruled out for the rest of the season. Jamie Smith and Dillon Powers are also doubts for the tie.
Prediction
- At a time the Seattle Sounders were favourites for the Supporters’ Shield, but after a dismal run of form Sigi Schmid’s side dropped into the knockout round. It’s do or die for Seattle and it’s time for record signing Clint Dempsey to finally deliver when it matters most.
- The Colorado Rapids could start as many as six players 24 years old or younger in their most important game of the season, including rookies Deshorn Brown, Dillon Powers and Chris Klute. That exuberance has been key to their success in the regular season. Can they carry it into the playoffs?
- The Rapids have shown a tendency to throw up a surprise against MLS‘ big names every now and then but the Sounders are expected to bring their A-game when it matters. Can the Sounders and Dempsey cope with the pressure?
