Mohammedan Sporting appoint Dhanarajan as captain
Newly promoted I-League side Mohammedan Sporting Club from Kolkata have appointed wing-back R. Dhanarajan as their captain for the 2013/14 season with striker Ashim Biswas the vice-captain. R. Dhanarajan and Ashim Biswas are two of very few players, who had been part of last season team which gained promotion from the 2nd Division I-League for the club, which this time around does not want to go up and then down again after a season as they have done on all earlier instances.
For Keralite R. Dhanarajan, who earlier played for Viva Kerala, United SC and Mohun Bagan AC, it not only is a great honour to captain Mohammedan Sporting but also added pressure as he said at yesterday’s press conference. “I am really happy. At the same time, I am a bit nervous. It is a big responsibility. I know that there will be a lot of expectations… And I hope that we can deliver.”
The rebuild squad under new Nigerian head coach Moshood Bola Abdul Aziz will have to prove its worth. They have a star-studded foreigners line-up which includes Brazilians Luciano Sabrosa and Josimar da Silva Martins, Australian Tolgay Ozbey and Nigerian Penn Ikechukwu Orji.
But big names don’t guarantee you good results.
