Mohammedan Sporting fire Abdul Bola Aziz, Sanjoy Sen likely to replace him as the new coach
Mohammedan Sporting club have sacked their coach Abdul Bola Moshood Aziz, just after their defeat against Churchill Brothers in I-League.
PTI quoted club President, Sultan Ahmed: “He (Abdul) has failed to put in the side together, be it in formation or controlling the game. We have asked him to part ways in a message sent to him in Goa.”
After losing two consecutive games on the trot, the Kolkata club have slipped to 11th spot, close to the relegation zone. Their points count is 13 from 13 games.
The president further mentioned: “We have such a good side with Joshimar (d’Silva Martins) who is the leading scorer at the moment, while (Orji) Penn is doing well. But the coach has failed to bring out the best.”
Under Sanjoy Sen, the team came second in the I-League second division last season and thus qualified to the top tier after four years. The Nigerian coach was signed at the beginning of the current season.
The club started well under the coach, winning the prestigious Durand Cup after 73 years. But in the I-League, the team has faltered so far.
Regarding the fine imposed on the club during their 2-3 loss to Bengaluru FC, Sultan Ahmed further mentioned: “We are a fan base club. It’s up to the police to provide the law and order. Still, I would personally appeal to look into the matter. I will also appeal on behalf of our coach who was fined Rs 10,000.”
