Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan ask for investigation

A woven net of suspicion is surrounding the match between East Bengal and Kalighat Milan Sangha. It was after East Bengal was awarded a pair of penalties, with the Mohan Bagan and Mohammedan Sporting officials instigating news of match fixing.

Mohun Bagan secretary Anjan Mitra said: “I was not out. But I have heard match fixing news and request the Federation Cup authorities to investigate this matter.”

Mohammedan official Kamarauddin agreed with the words of Mohun Bagan secretary and said: “If the news comes to be true then Indian football will take a great deal of damage. I think the federation should be more cautious and the match should undergo thorough investigation.”

The East Bengal in-charge Debabrata Sarkar countered their words but in a logical manner, saying: “The match commissioner was present on the ground as long as the match was played, so it will be him who will decide whether the match has been fixed or not by doing further investigation without any delay.”

He added: “We know that the match wasn’t fixed and if at the end of the investigation those who are against us are proved wrong, then the Federation should be liable to give them the appropriate punishment.”

Federation secretary Kushal Das clearly stated: “There is no chance of match fixing in the East Bengal-Kalighat match, plus East Bengal was trailing Kalighat all the time and could have ended up losing the match.”
