Mohun Bagan appoint Sanjoy Sen as new coach
Kolkata, Dec 8 (IANS) Days after removing Subhas Bhowmick as their technical director, city football giants Mohun Bagan Monday have decided to appoint Sanjoy Sen as their head coach.
The decision to draft in Sen was taken by the three-member technical committee and the management of United Mohun Bagan Football Team Pvt Ltd, after lengthy deliberations during the day, the club said in a statement.
"After a long discussion the name of Sanjoy Sen was unanimously proposed to be the next head coach," the statement said.
The club management will sit with Sen in a couple of days to discuss the administrative and other aspects before his appointment.
Mohun Bagan had relieved Bhowmick of his duties on 4th of December, citing the AIFF's recent decision that an AFC 'A' coaching licence was mandatory for someone to occupy such a position.
The All India Football Federation I-League committee meeting Nov 24 passed a resolution that from the ensuing season, the technical director should have an AFC 'A' licence, otherwise he would not be allowed to sit in the reserve bench or conduct training of the team.
Asked about the fate of coach Shankarlal Chakraborty, Mohun Bagan general secretary Anjan Mitra told IANS: "It is for the new head coach to decide whether he needs an assistant. And if he wants an assistant, then it is for him to decide on a name."
