Mohun Bagan president commits Rs 1 crore to club's budget

Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan AC like most other clubs in the City of Joy are going through a financial crunch due to the chit fund scam which has hit the state of West Bengal. And that has hit their plans in the transfer season as the Mariners had to reduce their first team budget substantially, which has led to problems in their recruitment process while in the last season payments were often not made on time or delayed for months. Further salaries of coach Karim Bencharifa, star striker Odafe Onyeka Okolie and others had to be reduced to adopt to the new situation.

This has put the club in a spot, then players they are interested in want a hefty signing fee or rather play elsewhere for lower salaries, where salaries are paid on time and in full.

Reacting to this crisis Mohun Bagan AC president Swapan Sadhan Bose, better known as Tutu, has written to the club’s general secretary Anjan Mitra about contributing INR 1 crore (10 Million) to the budget of the club after an online appeal was made for the members of the club to contribute.

Further the club president has committed to raise INR 2 crore (20 Million) in sponsorship and if not able, then he would himself to pay this additional money to the club.

A noble gesture at a time in which the club is fighting to sign the players that coach Karim Bencharifa would like to have in his squad.
