Mohun Bagan propose to IFA new format for Calcutta Premier Division

There is growing tension in Kolkata regarding the ongoing Calcutta Premier Division. Now Kolkata Maidan giants Mohun Bagan AC have send a letter to the IFA (West Bengal) with a proposal to restructure the Premier Division keeping the interest of all clubs in mind.In the letter Mohun Bagan proposes to the IFA to play the Calcutta Premier Division in two phases with the current three I-League sides Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Prayag United SC joining only the second phase.

In the preliminary phase all other participating clubs would be involved with the top three moving forward into a second phase where six teams would play for the Calcutta Premier Division title.

The reasoning of Mohun Bagan for this format is that it would allow the smaller clubs to finish their commitments within their usual three/four month window and on the other side the I-League clubs would only have to play five local league matches.

Currently it is not known what the IFA thinks about the proposal, but one thing is clear that the IFA will have to sit down with all clubs and discuss a way out of this situation which would result in a new format for the Calcutta Premier Division next season.
